What are Eating Disorders?

Eating disorders and Body Image Issues involve experiencing psychological stress or unhealthy habits relating to food, body weight or body appearance.

The eating disorders we can help you with include, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Disordered Eating.

What is Body Image?

Body image is the evaluation a person places on their physical self and the thoughts and feelings that result from that perception.

There are four aspects to body image:

  1. How you see your body,
  2. The way you feel about your body,
  3. The way you think about your body
  4. The behaviours you engage in as a result of your body image.

How can I improve my body image?

Improving your body image is a constructive and realistic goal. When you work with a psychologist who is trained to work with eating disorders and body image issues, they can help to empower you to change the way you see, feel and think about your body.

What is Bulimia Nervosa?

Bulimia is characterised by repeated episodes of binge eating followed by compensatory behaviours. In addition, people with bulimia place a lot of emphasis on body shape or weight. This can lead to the people’s sense of self-esteem and self worth being wholly dependent on the way they look.

What is Binge Eating Disorder?

Binge eating involves eating a very large amount of food within a relatively short period of time and feeling a sense of loss of control while eating.

What is Disordered Eating?

Disordered eating is a disturbed and unhealthy eating pattern that can include restrictive dieting, compulsive eating or skipping meals.
